NGOs play a very important role in the transformation of the global palm sector. By agenda setting, by flagging and raising issues that are not up to standard, by supporting corporates with improvements and by developing additional transformative strategies.
As SPOC participants we call upon NGOs to ensure that:
- communication efforts distinguish between sustainable palm oil and conventional palm oil; In particular when negative impacts are discussed;
- support companies that support the transition towards sustainable palm oil.
When behaviour is noticed which is not in line with RSPO standards, submit a complaint to RSPO via the RSPO Complaint and Appeals Procedure, in particular when it concerns RSPO members (note that it may be helpful to also send in a complaint when the complaint occurs with non-members, as it can be a ground for members to stop sourcing).
